One Sport of Athletics
In June 2020 Little Athletics Centres and Athletics WA Clubs voted in favour to adopt the Athletics West Constitution, and the dissolution of both sporting organisations (LAWA and AWA) to move forward as one sporting body in Western Australia, called “Athletics West”.
The highly successful Little Athletics program will continue in WA for athletes in age groups from U7 to U17. Athletes who are aged 13 and over, can also register with a “senior” club and compete in the Strive competition. These competitions are held during the summer at the WA Athletics Stadium. There is no maximum age to compete as a “senior” athlete however you do need to be registered with Athletics West as a Senior member or as an independent athlete.
Hamersley Athletics Centre became a “One Sport” Centre in August 2023 and will be able to offer a Senior Memberhip or dual Little Athletics/Senior Membership. This will provide a clearer pathway and open up new opportunities for athletes aged U12 and older to compete in their “Hamersley” colours. Please keep an eye out for more information as we get closer to the start of the season.
