This event has been held for Centres in the north metropolitan region. The format is reviewed annually to give athletes the best experience and opportunities. U9 to U15 athletes have this extra opportunity to compete against other Centres, either to finish the season or as an extra opportunity in the lead up to State Championships. U7 and U8 athletes do not compete at States so have the opportunity to compete for a medal. Visit the Athletics West website for more information.
Uniform
As this is a State event, Hamersley centre uniform (gold and maroon with the Hamersley logo) is to be worn by ALL athletes ages U9 to U15. U7 and U8 athletes only may wear club uniform. 2024 Competition:
The Zone Championships is a two-day State event that is open to all athletes in U7 to U15. There are three metropolitan Zone Championships held at different venues across Perth on the same weekend in February. Athletes in U7 to U8 compete in heats and finals at Zones, with the top three place-getters in each event being awarded medals. Athletes in U9 to U15 compete in heats and quarter finals at Zones with the athletes progressing to the State Championships, where they will compete with those athletes from the other Zones who also qualified.
For Zones, the maximum number of event entries per athlete is:
• U7 – U9 4 events over the two days – no daily event limitations apply
• U10 – U12 5 events over the two days – no daily event limitations apply
• U13 – U15 6 events over the two days – no daily event limitations apply
Qualification to State Championships
Athletes may qualify either via their results at Zone Championships or having achieved the qualifying standard throughout the season at their Centre. See the Athletics West website for more information.
