Weekly Saturday competition at Charles Riley Reserve commences at 7:30am with the first call for events commencing at 7:40am and events running to 11:30am.
Summer Athletics at Hamersley Athletics Centre
From October to March, Hamersley hosts Saturday morning athletics competitions at Charles Riley Memorial Reserve, North Beach – delivering a fun, inclusive, and structured program for athletes aged 5 to 16, with opportunities to compete and develop their skills.
We proudly support five affiliated Little Athletics Clubs, North Beach, Sorrento & Districts, Glendale, Karrinyup, and Oceanside—fostering a strong community network that champions participation, personal bests, and a lifelong love of athletics.
Weekly Centre Competitions
Each Saturday, athletes participate in a rotating schedule of events across two alternating programs, designed to provide variety, development and opportunity to compete across all track and field disciplines. Participation is open to all, and our focus remains on Personal Bests (PBs)—helping every athlete, regardless of ability, set goals and celebrate their own improvements. Centre Events include:
-
Sprints & Distance Running
-
Hurdles
-
Throws (Discus, Shot Put, Javelin)
-
Jumps (Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump)
The first two weeks of competition offers a reduced program with Hurdles and High Jump excluded to allow for skill development at training.
The first four weeks of competition count towards Hamersley track and field relay teams’ selection for U9+ athletes interested in competing at the State Track and Field Relays at the WA Athletics Stadium in December.
We wrap up the season with Centre Championships, held over the final two weekends. These events highlight athlete progression and achievement.
Weekly Centre Training
Centre training for athletes U12 and older is held every Wednesday from 5:30pm at Charles Riley Reserve. Led by specialist coaches, these sessions are included in the registration fee for both Little Athletics and Senior members.
Five Clubs at Hamersley
Hamersley affiliated Little Athletics Clubs each provide weekly training sessions during the Summer season. These club-run sessions focus on developing fundamental skills across all event areas in a supportive, team-based environment, helping athletes prepare for weekly Centre competitions.
State Competition Pathways & Athletics West
Hamersley Athletics Centre is proudly affiliated with Athletics West, the governing body for Little Athletics in Western Australia. In addition to weekly local Centre competitions, eligible athletes can compete in a range of state-level championship events coordinated by Athletics West, such as State Track & Field Relays, WA State Combined Events Championships, Zones Championships and Junior and Senior State Championships.
Little Athletes in the U9 to U13 age groups must qualify throughout the summer season at Centre level to compete at the Athletics West State Junior Championships. Athletes must qualify for each event by achieving the minimum entry standard or by place at the Zones Championships.
Parent Involvement
At Hamersley, athletics is a community effort. We foster a supportive community where parents are encouraged and needed to get involved, cheer from the sidelines, and volunteer track and field side. Our goal is to make Saturday mornings a fun, energetic, and positive experience for the whole family—because when kids are having fun, they thrive

How do I register to compete at Hamersley?
New to Hamersley?
We recommend attending our Information Day, usually held on the first Saturday in September at the Wendling Road Clubrooms, Charles Riley Memorial Reserve, North Beach. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Little Athletics, meet representatives from all five of our affiliated clubs, and get help choosing the right one for your family.

What amount of parent involvement is needed?
Hamersley Athletics Centre is run entirely by volunteers. All parents are needed to help the centre run smoothly. Every parent is an important part of the Hamersley Athletics Community – athletics is a family sport.
Our policy is that at least one parent must be in attendance at the field at all times while their children are competing to ensure children are supervised and that enough helpers are available to run a smooth event each week.
On competition days parents can assist in a variety of ways with little or no experience. You can learn as you go and it’s a lot of fun.
Is there a parent volunteer roster?
The Hamersley Little Athletics competition runs over 14+ competition Saturdays with a break prior to Christmas, recommencing early to mid January.
It is a requirement of registering your athlete that every parent commits to a reasonable number of hours per season on a Saturday morning. The roster commitment is approximately 10-20 hours per season depending on the nature of the roster chosen.
Some rosters are a little more demanding, but not beyond most people’s ability, and a few even require some skill development, however, even these are inherently rewarding and training is offered. All rostered parents will need to sign-in at the Roster Tent at least 10 minutes prior to their allocated roster start time and collect their equipment (officials vest, two-way radio, file and recording sheet).
How do I access my athlete's results?
Results are available via the ResultsHQ Portal using the email and password you set during registration. Forgotten your login? Simply use the reset link on the portal.
Who do I contact about a results query?
Email our Records Officer with your child’s full name, age group, registration number, event, date, and details of the issue. We’ll verify against official timing and result sheets.
