Summer Athletics at Hamersley Athletics Centre

From October to March, Hamersley hosts Saturday morning athletics competitions at Charles Riley Memorial Reserve, North Beach – delivering a fun, inclusive, and structured program for athletes aged 5 to 17, with opportunities to compete and develop their skills. We are a ‘one club’ center fostering a strong community network that champions participation, personal bests, and a lifelong love of athletics.

Saturday Competitions

Each Saturday, athletes participate in a rotating schedule of events across two alternating programs, designed to provide variety, development and opportunity to compete across all track and field disciplines. Participation is open to all, and our focus remains on Personal Bests (PBs)—helping every athlete, regardless of ability, set goals and celebrate their own improvements. Centre Events include:

  • Sprints & Distance Running

  • Hurdles

  • Throws (Discus, Shot Put, Javelin)

  • Jumps (Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump)

The first two weeks of competition offers a reduced program with Hurdles and High Jump excluded to allow for skill development at training.

The first five weeks of competition count towards Hamersley track and field relay teams’ selection for U10+ athletes interested in competing at the State Track and Field Relays at the WA Athletics Stadium in December.

We wrap up the season at Hamersley with Centre Championships. These events highlight athlete progression and achievement.

Weekly Centre Training

As we move to a ‘one club’ model for the upcoming 2025/26 summer season, Hamersley Athletics Centre will be offering center based training for all age groups across three hubs. The training schedules will be finalised prior to registrations opening in September 2025.

Parent Involvement

At Hamersley, athletics is a community effort. We foster a supportive community where parents are encouraged and needed to get involved, cheer from the sidelines, and volunteer track and field side. Our goal is to make Saturday mornings a fun, energetic, and positive experience for the whole family—because when kids are having fun, they thrive.

How do I register to compete at Hamersley?

All new and returning athlete registrations are now processed through Hamersley Athletics Centre – revolutioniseSPORT Registrations open 1 September for the new season > Registrations

Each child must be registered individually as a member. Payment is made online at the time of registration.

Following athlete registration, families are also required to select a volunteer roster, as Hamersley is a volunteer-run club. The Hamersley parent volunteer roster registration is managed through the Events feature in RevSport. Each Role category has associated role tickets assigned for selection. You only need to select 1 role for the full season. Events – Hamersley Athletics Centre – revolutioniseSPORT

What amount of parent involvement is needed?

Hamersley Athletics is run entirely by volunteers. All parents are needed to help the centre run smoothly.

On competition days parents can assist in a variety of ways with little or no experience. You can learn as you go and it’s a lot of fun. For more information on volunteer requirements > Volunteering & Rosters

Our policy is that at least one parent must be in attendance at the field at all times while their children are competing to ensure children are supervised and that enough helpers are available to run a smooth event each week.

Is there a parent volunteer roster?

The Hamersley Little Athletics competition runs over 14+ competition Saturdays with a break prior to Christmas, recommencing early to mid January. It is a requirement of registering your athlete that every parent commits to a reasonable number of hours per season on a Saturday morning. The roster commitment is approximately 15-20 hours per season depending on the nature of the roster chosen.

The Hamersley parent volunteer roster registration is managed through the Events feature here in RevSport. Each Role category has associated role tickets assigned for selection. You only need to select 1 role for the full season. Events – Hamersley Athletics Centre – revolutioniseSPORT

IMPORTANT NOTE: The program calendar is subject to change. Changes to competition dates will be communicated to all families.
